Botanical Straylight

Botanical Straylight is in a mature sim, but all commercial items are of a landscaping nature. It is the highest rated sim area for the voting kiosks you see around SL. It has a beautiful build, and also sells nice items to decorate your sim.

Avilion

There are a large number of roleplaying areas in Second Life, but one of the most well known is Avilion. It is on a beautiful four-sim build, and players are polite and well-mannered. The sims are considered “mature”, but I have never seen mature content anywhere, and any griefers are taken care of quickly. Medieval dress is required, but you do not have to join the RP group to have a look around. The picture below is of their ballroom.

Evie’s Closet

Shopping isn’t going to be a large part of this blog, mainly because it’s the focus of so many others, but once in awhile I will bring you a favorite haunt of mine. This first shop is probably my favorite in all of Second Life, and I am slowly building up a collection of every dress. The dresses are medieval in theme, for the most part, and good for fantasy roleplaying and entering contests.

I had been eying this dress for awhile, so this seemed like a good time to drop by and pick it up.

Chichén-Itzá, Mexico

The Mexican Tourism Board has created a lovely sim to promote Mexican tourism, including the Mayan monument Chichén-Itzá. It includes an audio tour. There’s a picture teleport board with several destinations in the sim, as well as some freebies.

Kumamoto Castle

One of the most memorable places I visited in Japan was Kumamoto Castle, and I was thrilled to find a very authentic looking rebuild in SL. Even better, the Kumamoto tourist association runs the sim, and offers a huge wall full of very well made freebies in the train station just across from the castle.

Genesis City

We begin our journey in Genesis City, mainly because that is where our new homebase is for the time being. It is an adorable build in Shinichi sim. You can find our store just off the town square in the General Store. We plan to offer mostly links and free stuff - nothing terribly commerical.

The town square is homey, and there is a recreation of the Abbey Road album cover, as well as a nicely made subway station with a train and turnstills. The shops that fill the city are unpretentious and carry a large variety of goods. I also found a cute little pharmacy while wandering around.
